Tomorrow is Scott's birthday!! Hooray! Happy birthday, honey! Unfortunately, he had to work tomorrow, so he took today off. And since I'm unemployed again, I got to spend a marvelous day with him! I'm so lucky to be married to Scotty-boy. He may seem so hard and serious, but anyone who really knows him knows that he's goofy and silly and ridiculous. And I'm the one who is blessed to know him best! So guess how much goofiness and silliness and ridiculous-iness he shows me! He keeps me in constant stiches, and I love the time I get to spend with him!
I am constantly amazed at how perfectly he and I complement each other. He's good where I'm bad, and He's bad where I'm good. We balance each other out so well, we actually don't even call each other husband and wife. We prefer to refer to ourselves as hybrids, since we're two pretty different species who have come together to form something better: our marriage.
I love you, Scott. And I especially love that for these few months, you're only a year younger than me!
Wipe the tears away, the sappiness is done. I think winter has officially arrived in Juneau! Well, maybe not officially. There's no snow yet, but there is lots of ice! There is a lake across the street from us, and the lake actually has a thin sheet of ice over much of it! It's amazing! Like I said, there's no snow where we're at now, but the snowline is creeping down the mountains. We decided to go to where they have skiing over on
Douglas Island to see if they were high enough to have snow, and maybe we could go on a snow hike, but alas, there wasn't.
I did get to show Scott my first birthday present for him, though! He told me last night that his favorite birthday present he's ever gotten has been snow on his birthday, and he was bummed it didn't look like it was going to happen this year, either. Well, little did he know what a great wife he has, huh? When we went to the ski area, they had a snow machine going, and it turns out that there was snow for his birthday! Dreams do come true! And all because of me! (don't think about it, just accept that it was all because of me.)
I can't remember if I've blogged about this or not before, but Juneau has more hiking trails than it does paved roads. I didn't believe it at first, but it has got to be true! We find trailheads all over the place! Today we were driving around today, and one block north of us we found a trailhead just one block north of us! How exciting! This is some place that we can totally go to and walk on! So we decided to check it out and see where it goes.

Well, all of the trails I've been on have all eventually lead to the ocean. They're pretty easy, but have all been very pleasant. I didn't think about the fact that this trailhead is nowhere near the ocean. In fact, it's going up the mountain. And up the mountain it went!! It was a gorgeous hike, but a hike it definitely was! It was amazing, though. The little creeks that were coming from the mountains were freezing over, and even the trail was freezing over and everything was making the most beautiful delicate frozen ice sculptures. It was beautiful. And I enjoyed looking at it all while my lungs burned. That is definitely a hike I'm going to be going on more, though, especially in the winter when the ground is frozen. I can imagine that would be a very mushy hike otherwise.
What else? Thank you to the people who wrote letters to the social workers! We really appreciate it! The ICPC worker has been saying pretty much every day this
week that she's going to get it turned in tonight, and this is the fourth tonight she's said that, so we'll see what'll happen, but at least our pestering her has gotten the ball rolling some more, I think.
